Willamette Primary PTA Programs/Events

Back to School Coffee:  Drop off your students and come mingle and catch up with friends while you have a cup of coffee, held the first two mornings of the school year.  Information about Willamette Primary and PTA will be available as well as representatives to answer any questions.

Ice Cream Social:  Our first community event of the year to welcome students and families back to school, usually held Thursday evening of the first week of school on the playground.  Don’t miss the chance to see teachers and staff serving ice cream and yummy toppings!

Artwork Fundraiser: Each child will produce a work of art within their classroom.  Parents are given an order form and artwork company website link to order artwork reproduced onto various items such as mugs, key chains, mouse pads, etc...  This fundraiser is very popular among parents.  It’s an easy way to support our school and give beautiful sentimental gifts to all those special people on your holiday shopping list.

Pizza/Bingo Night:  Dress up in your best Halloween costumes and join us for a spooktacular community event held in late October.  Play bingo, grab some pizza and enter to win raffle prizes.  You won’t want to miss the ever exciting costume parade!

Book Fair: Help support our Library!  By purchasing books at the book fair our library staff can purchase even more interesting and intriguing books for our library throughout the year.  Look for teacher wish lists and get a jump start on your holiday shopping.

Oregon Battle of the Books:  Oregon Battle of the Books or OBOB as it is better known encourages the love of reading in a team environment.  Teams of fourth and fifth grade students read books from a pre-determined list and “battle” against each other to earn the right to represent Willamette Primary at the regional OBOB competition.

Holiday Gift Drive: Spread the holiday spirit this December by joining Mark Silverman, school counselor and PTA in our goal to show our children the greatest gift of GIVING, by having compassion for our Willamette Families in need. All school classrooms sponsor a family and work together too generously “fill their family’s bucket" with needed items.

Winter Movie Night:  Bring your sleeping bags, blankets and pillows and cuddle up with your family as we present a recent family friendly movie in the Willamette gym.  Admission is free and popcorn and other snacks are available for purchase.  This fun cozy night is sure to keep the chilly weather at bay.

Missoula Children’s Theatre:  Leave the acting to us!  Missoula Children’s Theatre Directors transform the Willamette stage and selected students into a brilliant theater production in a week’s time.  Students grades 1st- 5th participate in an after school enrichment program to learn the ins and outs of theater.  The Willamette community is invited to celebrate the students’ achievements at the end of the week with a performance.  By far one of our most successful art enrichment programs.

Fun Run:  A Willamette Primary tradition!  Support wellness while raising funds to support our school.  Students practice for the fun run during regular wellness classes and collect pledges from the community.  The run takes place in the gym and the kids have a great time running to support their school.

Read to Us Week:  A wonderful program, featuring community members from various professions coming in and reading in the classrooms.  It exposes children to different industries and career paths, all while creating engaged readers.  This is one of the children’s favorite programs of the year.

Science Fair:  An educational community event where students display their science/exploratory projects to the school and public.

Staff Appreciation Week:  Get ready to spoil our wonderful Willamette staff during this week and show them how much we truly appreciate all they do for our children and school community.

Parent Education Night(s):  A night or two each school year with guest speakers and/or Willamette staff to address topics of interest or concern to parents.

Reflections: Does your child express creativity through art, dance, music, story, poetry, photography or videography?  Then this National PTA sponsored Art Contest is for your student.  Students enter original work(s) of art based on a theme.  The art is judged at the state level and if qualified will advance to the national level.  All students are recognized at the school level for participating and those chosen at the state level are invited to attend a recognition luncheon.

Field Day:  A celebration of the end of the school year at Willamette Park to send our students off into the summer.  Students are divided into small teams and rotate through various games and activities.  Kids love to watch the annual 5th grade water balloon toss and tug-a-war between the 5th graders and teachers.

Yearbook:  A collection of pictures and memories to remember the wonderful year at Willamette.

SOAR: Super cool and unique outdoor summer camp experience started and run by our own school counselor, Mark Silverman. SOAR provides 2-3 weeks of nonstop fantastic daily outdoor experiences for students in grades 1st -5th, that may otherwise not have the opportunity. SOAR has a devoted staff of adults and teen volunteers, provides daily door to door bus service, breakfast and lunch, along with a “come as you are” spirit is what keeps this 17 year program one of a kind. The SOAR program strives to close opportunity gaps in our community for families in need while teaching valuable life skills. SOAR is a safe, strong, and stable program; that the PTA and Willamette school community fully support.  For more information or to donate: contact Mark Silverman.
